Canada Goose applauds passage of Combating Counterfeit Products Act in Canadian House of Commons

Summary

Canada Goose, a manufacturer of luxury outdoor jackets welcomes the new Combating Counterfeit Products Act.  The new legislation was passed in Canada's House of Commons.  The Member of Parliament across the party lines stands united to vote for the new anti-counterfeit measures to stop counterfeit products from entering Canada.  Soon, the new law will protect consumers, businesses and Canadian jobs.  Kevin Spreekmeester of Canada Goose believes the new law will soon benefit all Canadians. Counterfeiting is a $650 billion a year global problem. In Canada, counterfeit goods are in every industry from over-the-counter drugs to computer devices, including but not limited to alcohol, contact lenses and cosmetics, to smart phones, medicine, toys and batteries.  According to RCMP, counterfeit products are becoming a threat to the health and safety to Canadians.

Opinion

Have you ever had a friend who will point out to you a counterfeit item on another person?  What were your thoughts?  How about what else on him/her were fake. I've known people who have purchased counterfeit products.  In fact, they would tell me only idiots pay retail.  They believe buying a knockoff item is harmless.  The thought of owning anything fake has never appeal to me.  The only way for me to purchase a counterfeit product -- is being duped.  Personally, I’d rather pick a no-name over a knock-off.  Don’t get me wrong, I love quality brands.  But not enough to own a fake.  What worries me the most, is products appears to be real even with a trained eye you cannot tell the difference.  The way I see it, the phrase 'fake-it-till-you-make-it,' is way overrated.

Questions and Feedback

Do you believe counterfeit products are here to stay?  Can you tell a fake from an original?  What do you think, Can a $650 billion counterfeit industry be too-big-to-stop?

I do believe counterfeit products are here to stay, people like to look good and expensive without paying the price

I have never been able to tell a fake from an original. i don`t care enough to analyze someone`s personal item to judge them on how much they bought that for and if it`s real.

I think the battle on counterfeit is a tough one. If you try and stop people they will just find another way.

We believe counterfeit products will always be around. Its really hard to dismiss them completely. Some people's job is creating these counterfeit products. It really does suck though, for the people that purchase the real thing, and everyone always asking, "Is this real?"... It's sad that people spend like $500 on a product and other people can buy the counterfeit for like $20 and the bystanders could either assume they are both real, or both counterfeit. Most people think "Why spend $500 on something when you can get an almost identical product for $20? Counterfeiting also decreases the company's sales and profit. I would like to think counterfeiting would one day erased from society, but we highly doubt it will ever come that far. Great blog!

Like the comments above, we believe that counterfeit products are going no where in the future, unfortunately. We think that it would be extremely hard to get rid of such a large industry, especially because it is available in countries all across the world.

Also, at first glance we think that it is hard to identify counterfeit products from real, authentic problems. However, we think that if you looked closely it would be possible to identify counterfeit products from real ones. We have never done that though because quite honestly who has time to analyze something that closely! And to us it doesn't matter how much you pay for something, as long as you love it that's all that matters!

Great blog by the way! Excellent information!

I think counterfeit products are here to stay, there are all over the world. Some people prefer counterfeit products because they are cheaper and sometimes they feel like it looks the same as the original.

I can sometimes tell if the a product is fake. But I don't really care because everyone has the own preferences.

Counterfeit products are always going to be around as long as there are those people who want the products but can not afford them are alive. Those people are doing a disservice to the original company as well as themselves.

As long as the products are very similar, it is very hard to tell. With the Canada goose it is always the fur that sets it apart. Usually I'm too busy or thinking of something else to give an opinion on the spot if they are wearing fake or not.

Its not going to be easy to stop, the only counter measure is to lower the price of the products, so there would be no point in buying the counterfeit products, however if you lower the price of the products, then the quality drops as well. Tit for Tat.

I believe that counterfeit products are indeed here to stay. They can help make those who may not be able to afford something really expensive or someone who doesn't care to buy something really expensive feel fancy or whatnot. It's really hard to tell a fake from an original these days. It used to be so easy back in the day. I personally do find it somewhat hard to tell a fake from an original.

Counterfeit products are here for the long term, today's society people want to have the appeal of a fancy new product at half the cost. Counterfeit products have become so well done now that its almost impossible to tell the difference. So i feel that a 650 billion dollar industry is going to be very difficult to stop, the industry is constantly growing and the only way to stop it would be to dilute the product and lower the price, which then takes away the prestige from the designer products.

Counterfeit products will definitely always be around, people will always want the latest and most "desirable" products, however they won't always be able to afford them. We're not saying that that is a good thing, but it is a prevalent issue nonetheless. We can usually tell fakes from originals. However there are some counterfeit products that are made so similar to the original that it makes it so hard to tell the difference! I don't think it's possible to stop people completely from creating, purchasing, or wearing counterfeit products. They'll always find another way around it and do it anyway.
